lifestyle & street fashion

Lately all I have been doing is packing! It sucks, but it needs to get done! So much of my clothing that I have has either been trashed, donated, or packed up. But, it’s good to get rid of the things you know you will never wear, the ones that have seen better days, and the ones that will be by your side to the end. So, since i’ll be living in a new house, new town, and new bedroom, redecoration tips are needed!

In this case, fashion is what inspires me, and I can’t have enough of that! I have so many Nylon magazines dating back from 2009, that I have idolized. So finding a nice open space for them to keep that “Fashion” feel in my room is key. My favourite colour is deep red, or a wine red colour, which my walls aren’t going to be painted that colour. Instead, the red will be a pop of colour by the furniture or decorations I keep in my room. Keep your room how you want it, don’t let someone else decorate it for you unless they know exactly what you want. You need to feel as if your room is an escape to the places you love!

I can’t stress this more! I am organized to a certain point, and that point is when I can’t find the right outfit for the day and clothes are spewed from my closet to the floor, which is not good. Once a month, organize your closet, and I like to organized my clothing by cut and colour. Keeping and organized closet helps you see what you have, and will be easier to navigate through. If you’re not a big fan of dressers, or have tons of closet shelving, keep boxes like this that are organized for short shorts, to skirts, old t-shirts, socks and undergarments, etc.

I love looking around places and finding new ways to decorate my room. I love Apartment Therapy. They always have great posts and it is so versatile for every viewer. For places on where to shop for the decor that goes in your room, I’m a fan of Anthropologie, and at the moment I am loving this, this, this, and this. They also have really cute knobs so you can customize your own furniture or use them and hangers on the wall! Also, I love Urban Outfitters. Not just for their clothing, which I do love, but for their decor as well! I am currently loving this, this, this, and this.

Be yourself when It comes to your room, and be creative. Try things out, even if they don’t work thats fine, but just try to make some of the things that you like, and know are easy to make (Rhododendron Chandelier from Anthropologie in my likes) and try to recreate it for less!

I hope this helps a little bit, so you can get a feel of what you can do to revamp your bedroom. Below are some of the bedrooms that I love the decor in.

I’d love to know what you love doing to stay organized!

rachel zoe

There is no word that can describe my epic love for rachel zoe, and The Rachel Zoe Project. Recently, I have been breifly watching the show in my fashion class, but this weekend, after I got home really late, I decided to fall asleep to some rachel zoe shows. Well, I didn’t quite fall asleep, but watched 5 episodes back to back. So, I guess you can see where i’m going here.

If you’re an avid lover of the Rachel Zoe Project, tell me what your favourite episode/season is, i’d love to know!

outfit of the day

well, here we go again! I spent to much money, but picked up the cutest top and cardigan combo. In the town I live in, there are very slim stores that sell what I like to wear. But, with this local boutique, they have everything in my style range, but sometimes to pricey. This is such a casual look, & I usually pair it with a pair of classic black flats, but nice heels look amazing as well.

Jeans from “Hollister” $1, Black Silk Crepe Tank w/ Scalloped Edges “Covet” $130, Cropped Cream Slub Sweater Cardigan w/ Metal Snaps “Covet” $110

Roberto Vianni Coarse-S Black Pumps $60

Now, you might be wondering if I made a mistake writing in the price for the Hollister jeans. In fact, they were only a dollar! I got them from a consignment store, and they have this $1 rack that sits outside, and everything is only $1, and these Hollister jeans just happened to be on there. Unfortunately, they didn’t fit me at the time, but I wasn’t gonna let them go! (a few rips & tears in them as well that I did, and hopefully there will be a post on that soon!)

red to coral (and a little glitter)

I’ve been eagerly wanting to pick up some Essie nail polishes lately, and just so happened to do that late last night. I wanted colours that didn’t look to similar to my OPI colours… I tend to buy to many OPI polishes, and have approximately every shade. The Essie nail polishes that I picked up were       “Fifth Avenue“, “Cute as a Button” & “A Cut Above“.

A Cut Above” + “Cute as a Button” + “Fifth Avenue

Cute as a Button on my thumb, pointer & middle fingers + Fifth Avenue on my ring & pinky finger w/ A Cut Above on my ring finger.

beautiful weekend!

Apparently I didn’t believe this weekend was going to be all that eventful. I was wrong. The girls, all of my 7 best friends, and I went to my friend Erin’s condo up at Silver Star Mountain. But, before the weekend started at the condo, hence the first photo below, I was stuck in construction holdup on the way to my house, and having a headache that prolonged throughout the whole day, I just wanted to get home and they didn’t let me! On a brighter note, once I arrived at the condo, after getting lost… My friends thought that they would pull a hotel “Zack and Cody” and ride the luggage cart… unfortunately, it had a flat tire! The night went splendidly well. We had great “girl” talk, went to the hot tub on the roof while it was snowing, and drank some wine, whilst we celebrated my friend Erin’s birthday! More exciting fun, we thought that it would be a GREAT idea to go and do the worm in the hallway, turned out that most of us couldn’t do the worm, so instead we laid on our backs and talked the night away! It’s oh so lovely to have such amazing friends, and this weekend was one to remember!

oh, ps, if you didn’t notice by the last photo. I got a really gnarly bruise on my inner left thigh from taking a soccer ball to the leg during saturdays soccer games… it really hurts a lot, but not so much as to when it really happened!

Lately, and almost everyday, there is always some controversy over people with tattoos, or someone thinking about getting ink’d. Most reasons why people want to get a tattoo, is to either remind them of a loved one, something that has great meaning to them, or mainly just because they like it and want it ink’d on their body. To me, a tattoo should symbolize something to you, but most of the time, I think that if you want it, and you’ve thought long and hard about wether you want it on you for life, then go for it! A tattoo doesn’t nessesarly need to have meaning to it, and that’s what I believe is the controversy of tattoos now a days, just because people get tattoos because they love them, and not because they have a deep meaning to them… So what! It’s not your body, so you don’t have to live with it! To the point of this post! Yes, I do have a tattoo. this is what it looks like. (picture below).

fragile bird: “even though you’re strong on the outside, you’re still fragile on the inside”

Now, I know that I have a meaning to my tattoo, but to be honest, it took me a while after I got the tattoo, to really understand the meaning I wanted linked to it. But, now that I have one… I want another! It’s almost like chocolate, its an addiction if you let it be! To be honest, I want one, because I want one! Not that I need one, just another thing that I need to think about what I really want, but I know that I do want to get another. Maybe in addition to the one I already have, or a new addition to my body. I have ideas in mind, and these are some locations i’m thinking of!

on the neck (thinking of the cross tattoo as well, very delicate looking, and always has a meaning)

 on the spine

now this is not going to suit everyone, but I do like the way it looks on the lower abdomen… I know, its a love hate thing!

lower abdomen/hip, now this is one that i’m very interested in!

thigh (if you’re getting your first tattoo, this one is supposed to hurt the least!)

back of the ankle

Now, the one that I show you next, is one that I believe looks the most divine! Even though I probably will never get it, or if I would really want it myself, but the way that it was tattoo’d onto this girls back, my goodness it’s just jaw dropping! Complete inspiration!

So, if you were to get a tattoo, thinking about one, or are getting one in the near future, where & what is it going to be?

I would love to know what you guys are getting, and what you think looks best!

my life lately, says my iphone!

Recently, I haven’t been doing much! But blogging & fashion ideas has been on my mind constantly. I’m in the proccess of getting a Nikon J1 and it’s taking longer than I expected to purchase… I mean, $650, cause you know I have that cash sitting around… not a chance! I hope to have my camera for April 26th, so in the mean time. Enjoy what my iphone has to offer, and a few snipits of what I have been up to lately!

if you haven’t already noticed by the last photo, I am graduating this year! It’s insane how fast life goes by when you aren’t paying attention half the time! There will definitly be a sneek peak of my dress, shoes and accessories when they all arrive! Still waiting on my dress, and it feels like i’ve been waiting forever for it, but in all reality it hasn’t nearly been a month since I bought it! On the contrary, there will be some DIY post coming this week! Can’t wait to share it with everyone, because it’s so simple, and being a fashion lover, this is just perfect for everyone else who loves fashion too! HINT: its an accessory so its simple, yet cute, and you’re able to flaunt it and be proud to say you made it!

a day look

During my adventures around my home town with a friend of mine, haley, and I went to the high points of the mountains to take pictures of one our towns beautiful lake. Wanting to keep my makeup natural looking, this is what I came up with.

MAC 217 Blending Brush, MAC 213 Fluff Brush, Annabelle A-14 Eyeliner Brush, MAC Paint Pot “Painterly”, Maybelline Eyestudio Gel Eyeliner “blackest black”, MAC Eyeshadow “Motif”, MAC Eyeshadow “Woodwinked”, Covergirl Lash Blast Fusion “Very Black”, Covergirl Natureluxe Liquid Silk Foundation “320 – aspen”

This combination was completely experimental, I didn’t know if I would like it, but it just so happened I did. I have Motif on the lid, and Woodwinked in the crease. I love the look of duochrome eyeshadows, it’s a different twist to your look, and can completely change the eyeshadow combination with different lighting!

What are some good duochrome colours?

I’m always looking for new ones to add to my eyeshadow collection

spring has arrived… briefly!

So, here in British Columbia, and many other places in the world, we have been experiencing the brief spring weather! Where I live, we have been ever so thankful for the on and off days between spring, blistering winds, rain, and occasional snow (epic sarcasim). I love spring for its fashion, and because it is the season right before the best of all season, which in this case is summer. I’ve been eyeing a lot of fashion styles that I will try my best to rock this spring, and posted them below as some inspiration for myself, and you of course!

( bright coloured pants, cream top, & subtle beach waved hair )

( loose knit sweater & one teaspoon shorts, that are just to pricey (the shorts).. for now! )

( colour blocking, so intrigued by this new trend! )

( cape cardigans, for a very casual look )

( logo’d tee & slouchy blazer )

( the “revamped” boyfriend tee, just add a belt to accentuate your waist )

face & hair (purchase list)

ONE. Clinique Acne Solutions Clearing Moisturizer TWO. The Body Shop Camomile Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover THREE. Benefit POREfessional FOUR. Clean & Clear Morning Burst Fruit Infusion FIVE. Alterna Bamboo Smooth Anti-Frizz Shampoo SIX. Alterna Bamboo Smooth Anti-Frizz Conditioner SEVEN. John Frieda Sheer Blonde Color Renew Tone Correcting Shampoo EIGHT. Alterna Bamboo Smooth Kendi Oil Dry Oil Mist

I have heard mainly good things about this product. Not so much negativity that emanates from this name other than some skin types react differently to their products, but yet again, doesn’t every product differ from person to person?! Other than that, I am excited to get my hands on this product, mainly because what I have heard so far, is to apply this product to any blemish on your face at night time (before you go to bed), leave it on over night, and by the morning there should be nothing there! Crazy right? But, I shall see for myself!

Recently heard this from a fellow blogger (essiebutton), and have been searching for a good makeup remover that works with gel eyeliners. Various lotions work as eye makeup remover for me, but throughout the past few weeks I have noticed a drastic change in my complexion, and I believe it may be from the lotions. So hopefully I can give the same positive feed back as Estée has for this product. (Picking up the bottle instead of the tube, and in liquid form)

OH how I cannot understand why this product hasn’t intrigued me sooner! My skin, which is pretty clear I might add, tends to have a lot of noticeable pores (blackheads)… and on the nose, chin, and hairline, is where its the worst. Even around my cheekbone area, I’m starting to see more visible pores. This my friends is an issue, mainly because my Graduation is around the corner, and I don’t want my atrocious skin to be the main focus of all photos. I shall hustle to get my hands on this product fast, and hope that I start seeing a difference soon!

For months now, it seems as every commercial I see is about Clean & Clear Morning Burst products. Being the television junkie I am, this product caught my eye, and I need to try it out to justify if this will be a frequent purchase. As I previously mentioned, my skin isn’t horrible, not even the slightest bit bad, BUT.. I have noticed that I’m getting more breakouts that I normally do. Maybe it’s because I haven’t been keeping my diet so healthy lately.. That could be the reason, but I honestly don’t know! So, hopefully once I get my hands on this, try it out.. it its gone! I’ll come back and do a review on it, seeing as this is a product that most guru’s that I have come across, rave about in their skin care videos!

MY HOLY GRAIL ITEM THAT I HAVEN’T PURCHASED IN MONTHS. My sister had purchased a travel kit with this shampoo and conditioner, that included an oil treatment and a hairspray all by the same brand, as a christmas gift for me. It all came packed into a cute bamboo makeup case! FYI the fragrance of this product is a LOVE it or HATE it kind of smell (or at least I think it is), and it just so happens that I didn’t care for it at first, but once I used it a couple of times, it grew on me and I started to love it! Now, the product itself is absolutely to die for! The price… well I could do without. $23 CAD is a bit pricey, but I love it to much to pass it up! This shampoo & conditioner has done wonders to my hair, and my hair is fairly straight, but ever so frizzy at times. I won’t go into to much detail about my hair, and hopefully I will do a review on this product because it’s completely worth it! But no matter what type of hair you have wether it be straight, wavy, curly or coarse, I swear by this product that it will show a change in the texture of your hair (in a good, smooooth way!) after using it a couple times!

I swear by purple shampoos, and that this is exactly what this is! But, it’s main purpose is to take the brassy colour out of your blonde (or brown) hair colour. Because copper/golden colours tend to have a reddish undertone to it, the purple (which is opposite read on the colour wheel) will help balance the unwanted reddish/copper hues in your blonde/brown hair. I haven’t used this particular product, but I have used a purple shampoo by a different brand (which I unfortunately don’t know the name of) and I find that it works wonders to my.. lets just clarify, bleached hair! I want to see if this product lives up to its reviews, which from what I have read, have been a 4 out of 5 rating in my books (from reviews that I have read). BUT BE CAREFUL! Don’t wash your hair with it more than twice a week.. or you will end up like the elderly woman you see with purple/blue tinted hair… YUCK!

The oil treatment that I have been using from this brand is outstanding! Better results than the Moroccan oil I might add! Since I tend to use heat to style my hair (like ever other person), I need to find a heat protectant that not only moisturizes my extremely dry hair, but also protects it from the excessive heat of my hot tools… which is what I believe heat protectants are created to do!! I’ll give this one a try, and hopefully it’s quality compares to the other products that I use from this brand, which I adore.

I’ll be purchasing these items soon, and all products that I do purchase, I will review in a future post wether it be good or bad. But, like I have probably said many times in this post, is that Alterna Bamboo Smooth is a great product despite the cost that tags along with it. I hope this helps current readers who are looking for some face&hair products that might not have been on your radar, but definitely been on mine, that you might want to check out!
